What about age? My son is now a teen. Also do you need to be in the US?

Thank you for your question. There is no age restriction to use the app, or to participate in the the Early Adopter Program. Also, you do need to be in the US to participate in the Early Adopter Program, and use the application. We are working hard to make the app available globally. Can infant under 1do it as well?
Hi Claire,
A CVI evaluation can be started as soon as 9 months of age. During this time it would be beneficial for the family to familiarize themselves with the CViConnect resources and connect with other families that have children with CVI through the CViConnect Facebook group. It would also be helpful to connect with the teacher consultant for the visually impaired and gather a tentative plan to evaluate the child and train the Early On staff.

I teach students with cvi. Are there advantages beyond the usual recommended apps iPad light aide and light box activities?

An individual with CVI needs to utilize a variety of structured and meaningful activities throughout their day that allow them to use their vision. Some of the biggest advantages of the CVI Connect app are the data collection and the ability to meet the individual child’s needs among all three phases.

HI! I enjoyed hearing from Stephanie and also (I believe it was) Steve on the CVI Teleconference (Lighthouse Guild). I kind of understand the teacher/parent benefit to the app -the rating and data collection part – but I have yet to figure out just what the CHILD is actually doing on the app.
I’m seriously considering joining the 3-month trial, but it would be so helpful if you could post a series of screen-shots, kind of like the AppStore does for every app it sells. I have trouble accessing uTube, so I can’t see your sample video, but a list of games available, and a chart of what is available to various CVI levels would offer some clarity.
My son is a 9 year old in Phase III, who is reading (very slowly and not fluently) and has a higher comprehension level than reading fluency. I would really appreciate if you can describe to me some of the games/activities applicable to him and their educational goals.

What generation iPad is required to run the app?

Thank you for your question. The iPad has to be able to run iOS 9 or better. It also needs the camera. This means anything iPad2 or better will be able to run the CViConnect iPad app.
When will the app be available?

Does each family need to apply, or can the app be used by a TVI for more than one student. Perhaps when the teacher vision comes out, this won’t be an issue. But for now, I have a family with two children with CVI. Do they need to register each child for $50?

Thank you for your note. Regarding the Family Service Pack, yes each individual child needs their own subscription, which will then generate a unique user ID and password for that child. It is the only way to track the data/progress for that child.
You are correct, the Professional Service Pack will be priced so that teachers/professionals can work with multiple students/clients.
With all of that said, once we go live with the Family Service Pack, please have the family reach out to CViConnect (or you) and we will figure out a way to discount the monthly fee for this family.

Would this be appropriate for a child well into phase 3 (about 8.5 on the range)?
Hi Jen,
Yes. A student that scores a 6 and above is beginning to look at two-dimensional images. CViConnect has several activities for street signs (Orientation and Mobility), learning the shapes of words by highlighting with a single color, and common pictures used in education. Our activities start off simple, but become more complex. This is an efficient way for a teacher or parent to provide interventions.
Remember CViConnect is a tool in the tool box. We use verbiage that teaches the salient features. Hopefully our activities will allow the student’s CVI team to create/accommodate CVI appropriate lessons of their own. We are also connecting team members and collecting data in one designated location. If a family has a specific lesson that they are interested in we can create a lesson to suit their needs. We are always looking for more ideas for activities.
